This is the first book in a trilogy about an heirloom necklace that is said to be cursed.  It could bring its owner untold happiness or unbearable tragedy.  This book is about a girl named Victoria, who in order to save her sister from their stepfather, hits him over the head and takes the heirloom necklace.  In London, she poses at Tory and finds employment with Cordell Easton, Earl of Brant.  Victoria's stepfather locates them and Cord learns that she is not just a housekeeper, she is of noble birth.  Cord decides to marry Tory and keep her and her sister safe from the clutches of their stepfather.
