The Last by Hanna Jameson

The Last by Hanna Jameson  340 pages

For fans of high-concept thrillers such as Annihilation and The Girl with All the Gifts, this breathtaking dystopian psychological thriller follows an American academic stranded at a Swiss hotel as the world descends into nuclear war—along with twenty other survivors—who becomes obsessed with identifying a murderer in their midst after the body of a young girl is discovered in one of the hotel’s water tanks.

I was under the impression that this book was about a murder and the nuclear war aspect was to explain why people were stuck together in the first place. Untrue. The murder was more like an afterthought. I DO NOT KNOW HOW HE FIGURED THINGS OUT! I even went back to see if I missed something--like a whole chapter!! The big reveal was disappointing because of that.

I liked the writing and I wasn't bored even though it wasn't what I thought it would be. However, not worth your time if it doesn't make sense in the end.
