When I read this excerpt, I was intrigued. I could only guess how she found herself alone on a cruise ship. (I was wrong btw)on the protagonist's behalf, I felt anger, sadness, fear, and more anger. And if it happened to me, I wonder how I would feel when it was over. Also, the very end is like a Twilight Zone ending. It made me laugh.
