Verity by Colleen Hoover-323 pages
I haven't previously read anything by Colleen Hoover, but because of her immense popularity I decided to dip my toes in the water and read at least one. It opens with a bang, but then is more of a slow burn for a while in the middle. Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling author who's mom just died of cancer. Her mother's death has left her in a lot of debt, so when an offer comes along to finish a popular author's series she reluctantly accepts. Lowen is in for more than she bargained for, however. Verity Crawford is the popular author whose series Lowen has been hired to finish. Verity is presumed to be a vegetable (brain dead) after a car accident. Verity and her husband Jeremy have been through devastating grief in the past year. Lowen moves into the Crawford house to research and write the final three novels in the series. I must say there was a big twist at the end that I didn't see coming. This is a pretty good book and I would give it 4 out of 5 stars.
