The Half Moon by Mary Beth Keane - 296 pages
The Half Moon follows married couple Malcolm and Jess through a turbulent period that marks a turning point in their marriage and lives. The novel also takes you through the relationship ups and downs that brought the couple to where they are when the novel begins -- across town from one another but, in some ways, worlds apart in Gillam, a fictional suburb of New York City where they both grew up.
I did not like this novel until toward the end, mostly because I did not really sympathize with either spouse, each of whom has a singular passion that drives their actions through much of the story to the detriment of pretty much everything else in their lives. Good writing kept me going, though. And, in the end, I found the story satisfying.
I'd recommend this to readers who like realistic contemporary fiction with sharp dialogue and storytelling.
