One For Sorrow by Mary Downing Hahn (306 pages)
Annie Browne is dismayed when, on her first day at a new school, unkempt Elsie Schneider claims Annie as her best friend, causing her to be ostracized by the entire class. When Annie manages to befriend other girls, Elsie is left alone once again. When Elsie dies in the Great Influenza, Annie is discomfited at the girl's passing... until Elsie's grave is disturbed and her vengeance is released upon Annie.
One For Sorrow was an interesting read. As a child, I was very interested in the influenza of 1918, and this book would probably have been a favorite.
