The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi, 264 pages
Jamie Gray is having a bad year: a world-wide pandemic, betrayed by his former boss, forced to scrape a living by delivering for food apps. Life is bleak until Jamie reconnects with an old acquaintance who offers a vague job with a mysterious animal rights organization. Jamie accepts and life as he knows it is turned upside down. Just as Jamie starts to settle into his new normal, he finds his newfound skills are put to the task of having to save not just one world, but two.
The Kaiju Preservation Society is a fun romp for both scifi enthusiasts as well as readers who may be new or gunshy with genre fiction. It is essentially Jurassic Park meets Pacific Rim with a satisfyingly-Scalzi ending. I love most of Scalzi's work, but this might just be my new favorite!
