The Secret Staircase (Victorian Village Mystery #3) by Sheila Connolly

The Secret Staircase (Victorian Village Mystery #3) by Sheila Connolly-304 pages

I listened to the previous book (Killer in the Carriage House) in this series and enjoyed it. I wanted to read this when it came out. This was a solid continuation of the story. Kate Hamilton is still in Asheboro, Maryland (her old hometown) and she's trying to get her project to renovate and revitalize Asheboro off to a good start. She interviews candidates to renovate the Barton Mansion (specifically the kitchen to start) and she thinks she's found the right person for the job in Morgan. However, they find a body hidden in a secret staircase that seems to have been there for 100 years. What is the body doing there? Who is it? A few days later, the plumber Morgan recruits for the job (Steve Abernathy) is found dead in the mansion's basement. How did he die? I enjoyed reading this and it takes some fun twists and turns. I really liked the ending.
