Dunn is a nature writer who undertook a mission to see hummingbirds in their entire range from southern Alaska to Tierra del Fuego in South America. Along the way, he encountered the smallest bird in the world in Cuba, the bee hummingbird, and many other truly beautiful species in diverse habitats. Some of these iridescent birds are highly endangered due to development and climate change, but the author notes conservation groups working to ease the pressure on them.
