A Burning by Megha Majumdar

A Burning by Megha Majumdar - 304 pages

"Jivan is a Muslim girl from the slums, determined to move up in life, who is accused of executing a terrorist attack on a train because of a careless comment on Facebook. PT Sir is an opportunistic gym teacher who hitches his aspirations to a right-wing political party, and finds that his own ascent becomes linked to Jivan's fall. Lovelyan irresistible outcast whose exuberant voice and dreams of glory fill the novel with warmth and hope and humorhas the alibi that can set Jivan free, but it will cost her everything she holds dear." - Amazon

Oh. My. Goodness.  This book blew me out of the water.  The story is told from three different perspectives, keeping the plot moving along quickly, and I absolutely could not put it down.  This is a story of politics and power, speaking out, and the both the intended and unintended consequences of our actions.

By the end I was crying like a baby, so of course I'm recommending it to everyone I know.  Five out of five stars!  Oh, and it's a debut novel!  I cannot wait to see what Megha Majumdar does next.
