Act-Age, Vol. 1 by Tatsuya Matsuki-194 pages
Kei Yonagi is a 16-year-old aspiring actor. She goes to an audition for an acting agency but is turned away. Kei raises her two younger siblings all by herself and works jobs in addition to attending school and aspiring to act. A few days after her unsuccessful audition, a younger director stops by her house and says he wants to train her to be an actor. He lands her a role in a commercial and a role as an extra in a feature film (although this ends up being an adventure, to say the least). Finally, the director lands Kei an audition for a major role on a big film production of Death Island for the same acting company/agency that initially turned her away. The story continues in volume 2.
