I have read the entire Selection series and The Siren by Cass and I really enjoyed reading them. However, I found this to be okay, but not good or great. It's kind of meh. I would still give it 3 out of 5 stars, but the characterization and world building are superficial and don't go much beyond the surface. Also, I didn't connect with the main character as I did with the Selection series and that makes a big difference. This is the first of a planned duology, so perhaps the second book will be better. I must say I was slightly disappointed, though. It is not a bad read, but it just isn't a good read, either.
