Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter
480 pages / 16 hrs, 5 mins
"What if the person you thought you knew best turns out to be someone you never knew at all?" Andrea Cooper's relationship with her mother is "upended when a visit to the mall is shattered by an act of horrifying violence that reveals a completely different side of Laura...
"To save her mother, Andrea embarks on a desperate journey following the breadcrumb trail of her mother's past. Andrea knows that if she can't uncover the secrets hidden there, there may be no future for her mother...or her." --from the publisher
The premise of this story is intriguing. In fact, I could hardly stop listening during the first few chapters. But then the backstory took over the narrative and it was full of graphic violence, family/partner abuse, and manipulation. Just not my cup of tea. I gave it two stars out of five.
