The Black Prince and the Capture of a King: Poitiers, 1356 by Marilyn Livingstone and Morgen Witzel --218 pages
Poitiers was one of the major victories of the English and their Gascon allies over the French in the Hundred Years War. The Prince of Wales, Edward of Woodstock (the Black Prince) chose a strong defensive position and was able to wreck a larger French army and capture the French monarch, John II. Although the buildup to the battle includes repetitive marches and plundering by the English, the book does an admirable job of describing the battle itself and summarizing the outcome for both nations.
