In 1949, war veteran Aloysius Archer is let out of jail on very strict parole. In his search for a job (and a stiff drink), he is led to a local bar where he is offered a job to collect a debt for Hank Pittleman, a powerful businessman. Although, the task is not that simple. The man in debt is angry with Hank and will not pay. In the midst of everything , there is a murder, and the police believe it may be Archer. It is up to him now to discover the real killer to save himself from more prison time.
It was a little slow, but I did still enjoy this book.
