The Road to Grantchester by James Runcie

The Road to Grantchester by James Runcie --- 327 pages including Acknowledgements and Sources.

A prequel to Runcie's Grantchester Mysteries series about World War II veteran Sydney Chambers, who finds a precarious sense of peace and opportunities to solve mysteries in postwar Britain, when he surprises everyone (including himself) by becoming an Anglican priest.

The books have been made into a television series, with some significant deviations from the text, which has aired on PBS "Masterpiece Mysteries" for three seasons. (Full disclosure: although I enjoy the TV series, I think the books are better.) The fourth season of "Granchester" will premier this summer, minus Sydney and starring a new minister taking over his parish and his detecting duties.
