The Great Beanie Baby Bubble: The Amazing Story of How America Lost Its Mind Over a Plush Toy and the Eccentric Genius Behind It by Zac Bissonnette

The Great Beanie Baby Bubble: The Amazing Story of How America Lost Its Mind Over a Plush Toy and the Eccentric Genius Behind It by Zac Bissonnette, 272 pages

I purchased this book back when it was published in 2015.  I am not sure why I waited so long to read it.  This was one of the best books I have read in a long time.  I think I waited so long to read this because the Beanie Baby craze died around 2000.  This was a fascinating story of how Ty Warner built the beanie baby business from his apartment and no money and turned into a billion dollar business.  It is just amazing to think one man could make billions from a little stuffed toy.  I was just perplexed.  Not only does this book include all the details of Ty Warner's life and business, it also dives in to people's personal stories.  It is just amazing to think people spent their life savings thinking these little stuffed animals would turn them in to millionaires overnight.  Before I read this book, I thought Ty Warner was bankrupt, but I was wrong.  There is so much I learned from reading this book.  I did not know Ty Warner had never married and never had children.  I did not know he is 74 years old.  And, I did not know he is worth 2.7 billion dollars and owns several hotels, including the Four Seasons in New York City.  The title pretty much sums the book up.  It does give me warm fuzzies to think that once in American history these little stuffed animals were all we had to worry about.
