This teen series is a Nancy Drew for our time with a paranormal twist. The series opens with us following the psychic Giordano sisters as they solve mysteries in their small town of Nightshade, California. Run-ins with vampires, secret werewolves and all sorts of paranormal things are happening all over town such as the local diner being run by the invisible man. The series shifts its focus in book six to Jessica Walsh (a neighbor of the Giordanos) as she discovers her destiny as a defender of Nightshade a la Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Fans of Charlaine Harris's Midnight, Texas series will find a lot to enjoy here. The world is fully fleshed out and the characters remain true throughout the series whether or not they are in the main part of the plot or just a side character for this particular adventure. The violence is minimal so it wouldn't be jarring to a younger teen audience.
