On a recommendation from a patron, I decided to read this novel which is only the second written by this author.  The patron told me that she couldn't put the book down and highly recommended the book.  I have to concur with her findings.  This novel is fast-paced and builds in anticipation of what is going to happen next. The ending is a complete shocker.  It begs the question, who can you really trust?

As the story begins, the protagonist, Cass, is returning home from a work party and because it is storming and she wants to get home quickly, takes a short cut through the woods (against the advice of her husband).  While driving, she comes upon a car stopped alongside the road. Instead of stopping she continues home.  The next morning, Cass discovers that the woman she saw on the side of the road is dead, murdered on that same route Cass took going home.  Cass quickly becomes paranoid wondering if the murdered saw her and will come after her next.

The author does a wonderful job of keeping the readers on the edge of their seats, making you unable to put the novel down.  This is one of the best psychological thrillers I have read in a long time and with a completely twisted ending.  After reading this, I have put her first novel, Behind Closed Doors, on my "to read" list.

I give this one 5 out of 5 stars.
