The Christmas Train by David Baldacci
352 pages/7 hours
Tom Langdon, is a world-traveling journalist and adventure junkie, but he feels like something is missing in his life. Because of an altercation with an over-zealous airport security officer, he is forced to take a train from Washington, DC to Los Angeles in order to spend Christmas with his on-again, off-again girlfriend. In order to make the long trip worth his while he decides to write a story about the charm of train travel.
The story includes larger-than-life characters, a bit of romance, petty theft, and a train-stopping avalanche. It's a fun story with a couple surprises and perfect for the holiday season. In another author's hands it might have been too sappy and simple, but Baldacci tells the tale well and leaves a smile on your face.
