The Fold - Peter Clines - 384 pages
Sci fi! Mystery! Suspense!
Yep. That about wraps it up.
Okay, so there's this guy with an eidetic memory (you might remember those from such cuddly characters as Sheldon "Soft Kitty" Cooper from The Big Bang Theory and Sherlock Holmes from...uh, Sherlock Holmes) who's drafted by his governmentally-inclined friend to investigate general heebie jeebies over a science project with a grant up for renewal. It's a transporter...but (cue the suspenseful music) what is it transporting?!
This book danced the line between sci-fi and suspense in a perfectly delightful way. For people who do things like watch Star Trek or read gobs of sci-fi, it's not a total surprise when you figure out what's happening, but the premise and delivery are still pretty great. I'd still like to know what really happened to that chimp, though.
