Trigger Mortis by Anthony Horowitz

Trigger Mortis by Anthony Horowitz, 320 pages

Trigger Mortis is a recent bestseller from British author Anthony Horowitz. Horowitz was chosen by the Ian Fleming estate to continue the James Bond series, and this is the latest installment. Horowitz effortlessly blends writing from Fleming with his own to create a new adventure for the famous spy. James Bond is asked to investigate a potential crime at a German racetrack, and stumbles onto a much larger mystery.

Horowitz is perhaps best known for his Alex Rider series of spy novels for teens. That is how I first encountered him, and he has since been my favorite contemporary author. In interviews he has often stated that Alex was largely influenced by the James Bond novels, and now Horowitz is able to write the character who inspired so many of his other works. He revives old favorites such as M, Miss Moneypenny, and Pussy Galore, in addition to introducing a new female character, Jeopardy Lane. Horowitz has also been asked to continue the Sherlock Holmes series, in between writing and producing scripts for BBC and American television dramas.
