Alice in the Country of Hearts v.1: My Fanatic Rabbit – 191 pages

Alice in the Country of Hearts v.1: My Fanatic Rabbit – 191 pages

In a variation on the story of Alice in Wonderland, Alice Liddell is taken to Wonderland by a rabbit – really a man with rabbit ears – named Peter White.  In this first volume, she takes up residence in the castle of the Hatter Mafia, and spends her time with Blood (the Hatter) and Elliot March, his second-in-command, then later travels to Heart Castle, home of Peter White and Queen Vivaldi, who is quite ready to separate Alice’s head from her neck.  In a world where death is not permanent and characters vie for Alice’s affections, little happens besides Alice trying to decide which castle to live in and rabbit-eared man to like – reflecting perhaps the manga’s electronic dating sim origins.  While at times beautifully drawn, the well-dressed characters seemed largely empty, and the cruelty and stupidity of the Country of Hearts unappealing.
