The Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss - 159 pages
This book is a hard one to categorize. Its a novella that serves as a character study of Auri who has been featured in the author's amazing Kingkiller Chronicles epic fantasy novels. Nothing really happens in the book but Auri's everyday life in the warrens under the University but what a unique life it is. Rothfuss uses descriptive language beautifully and the glimpse into how Auri sees the world is very moving as she tries in her own small way to fix the broken and to find homes for the lost. As the author states in the prologue this is definitely not the first book of his you should pick up because it drops you straight into just a small piece of the world created in the Kingkiller Chronicles.
