House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones

House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones - 404 pages

Charmain is delighted to be told she is going to housesit for Great Uncle William while he is away getting medical treatment.  It's her chance to escape her respectable home and parents.  First thing she does is get hired on at the palace to help in the library.  Then she tries out her first magic spells.  Then the problems start.  Peter, a boy wanting to apprentice with Uncle William, shows up.  A lubbock tries to attack her.  And the kingdom is about bankrupt.  Now she must work with visiting wizard Sophie and her family to try to fix all the problems that keep arising.

I love Diana Wynne Jones books and try to re-read them every few years.  This is the third book featuring the Wizard Howl and his family - although they only have a small part in this book.  A great read.
