The second collection of short stories by Saylor, set in the years of the waning Roman Republic and featuring investigations from Gordianus' early career as a private inquiry agent employed by the rich and powerful, giving him (and readers) an up close and personal view of famous events in history. All of these stories fall chronologically between the novels Roman Blood and Catalina's Riddle.
