Darkness Rising Book 1
Teenager Maya discovers that her idyllic life in a tiny town on Vancouver island is not what it seems. The research facility where most of the town is employed may be involved in something more sinister than just protecting itself from corporate espionage. Maya's best friend Serena, who is captain of the swim team, mysteriously drowns in a calm lake and that unleashes a firestorm of mysterious changes in Maya's life and relationships. I really liked Armstrong's adult Otherworld series and found the plot in this book to be a little predictable but the characters were interesting so I kept reading to see what happened next.
