Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake - 320 pages
(Anna Book 1)

I'm a sucker for creepy cover art and that's what drew me to this book initially.  It features Cas Lowood, a moody teenager who has taken on his deceased father's mantle as a slayer of murderous ghosts.  Cas's pursuits take him to Thunder Bay, Ontario to investigate Anna, the ghost of a brutally murdered young girl who is haunting and killing at an abandoned house.  Cas finds much more than he bargained for with dispatching Anna and the situation is further complicate by the unexpected connections he makes with new friends.  This book was nominated for the 2013-2014 Gateway Readers Award.  I really enjoyed it and am currently halfway through book two of the series.

"The purpose of the Gateway Readers Award is to promote literature, literacy and reading in Missouri high schools, and to recognize authors and illustrators of books that are favorites of Missouri students in these grades. Each year, Missouri students in grades 9-12 vote for their favorite book from a list of nominated titles. The Gateway Readers Award is awarded to the author of this book by the Missouri Association of School Librarians."
