The Bookman's Tale by Charlie Lovett

The Bookman's Tale:  A Novel of Obsession by Charlie Lovett - 352 pages

Do not let the subtitle deceive you; while this is a novel, it is also a mystery.  Three interconnected storylines converge at the end.  The main one that drives the story is the "modern" one set in 1995.  In it, the Peter Byerly is an antiquarian bookseller who, after his wife's death, moved to England from the Untied States.  While there he becomes involved in a book deal gone bad that leads him on a chase involving solving a crime he had been framed for.  The "middle" storyline covers how Peter's relationship with his girlfriend-turned-wife, Amanda, and how he became involved in the rare book world through his job at his undergrad's special collections department.  The "old" storyline details the history of a the rare book that is at the center of the "modern" storyline's mystery.  It covers multiple centuries beginning with Shakespeare's era.
