Amy Inspired by Bethany Pierce - 318 pages
First, I will say I found this title completely by accident when reordering a whole shelve of books (nothing was in order!). As the situation in the book was a current and familiar one (plus the main character shared my name), I opted to check it out and give it a try. Essentially, the storyline is a familiar one for most young people in today's America: The twenty-somethings who have a degree, but cannot find a job in their field or cannot find full-time or professional work in their field. In this case, Amy and her roommate, Zoe, are aspiring authors. Amy is working part-time adjunct teaching at her alma mater while Zoe is working in a coffee shop. Their lives are upended by two things which occurred in short succession: Zoe's friend Eli moves in with them after losing his apartment and Zoe's mother's cancer returns. The novel covers all the main character's interactions and reactions to the situation in relateable ways. In conclusion, let's say the book struck a chord, but the ending could have been stronger than leaving Amy and Eli's storylines hanging.
