The Invisible Man, by HG Wells, 192 pages
I read this as part of a fantasy/sci-fi MOOC, and it was surprisingly accessible. When a rude stranger comes to Iping, the town is in for a surprise. He is a scientist who has turned himself invisible, and uses his newfound transparency for a variety of reprehensible acts. It seems to be mainly about the issue of ethics in science.
