Unhinged: The Trouble With Psychiatry--A Doctor's Revelations About A Profession In Crisis, 256 pages
I highly recommend this book if you or a loved one has ever seen a psychiatrist. This book was eye opening. The author went into great detail of the ins and outs of the profession He was honest how psychiatrists make the most money by prescribing medication and not doing psychotherapy like they have been known for doing in the past. Psychiatrists can see four patients an hour by only prescribing medication versus one patient an hour if they are doing psychotherapy. Many doctors now send their patients elsewhere for psycho therapy and solely prescribe medication. There was also information on how doctors make most of their money from the drug companies by prescribing their medications. It was interesting to read how doctors will steer their patients towards a specific drug or do everything they can to keep a patient on a particular medication. The author revealed that this profession is mostly about making the most money and not about the patient. This was a fascinating read!
