The Countess by Lynsay Sands & The Heiress by Lynsay Sands

The Countess by Lynsay Sands - 371 pages
The Heiress by Lynsay Sands - 370 pages

These books tell pretty much the same story only from different characters points of view.

The Countess - Christiana has been unhappily wed for a year to Dicky Fairgrove.  She is thrilled when he drops dead one day.  Imagine her surprise when he shows up at a ball that evening.  Turns out that Dicky was actually George Fairgrove, the twin brother of the real Richard, and he had tried to kill Richard a year earlier to take his place.  Now they must figure out how Richard can reclaim the title, who murdered Dicky, and who is blackmailing them.

The Heiress - Suzette, Christiana's sister, is desperate to wed a poor man in need of money.  She has a large dowry that is only available once she marries.  She needs the money to pay off their father's gambling debts.  Luckily she has met Daniel Woodrow who is perfect.  The only problem is actually getting to the wedding.  First they have to deal with the dead Dicky -- and then there is the person trying to kill Daniel and marry Suzette for her money.

It's pretty unusual for a romance series to tell the same story from different viewpoints.  That seems to be more a mystery or suspense genre trick.  I thought The Countess was fairly well done - although the premise was ridiculous, it was interesting and fun to read.  The Heiress on the other hand had huge gaps in its story.  It assumes that you have read the first book.  If you hadn't, you would have been completely lost as it left big chunks of the plot out.
