Coming Clean by Kimberly Rae Miller, 256 pages
Looking at Kimberly's picture on the cover jacket, one would not believe that she grew up the daughter of a hoarder. She is a very pretty lady and appears to be very put together. I liked this book, but I felt it would have been better with pictures. I understand growing up in this mess a person would not think to take pictures. Her description of the filth was very detailed and very shocking, especially when their first home burned and they lost everything. It was hard to imagine that her father continued to collect paper, and her mom continued to shop. Her father even was admitted to a mental hospital but still continued to hoard. Kimberly seemed awfully forgiving of her parents after continually cleaning up after them for years. Each time her parents moved, her parents were paralyzed and could not come to terms with their stuff. Kimberly would come to their rescue and get rid of stuff, clean, and pack. The book seemed a little repetitive. I would have like to seen her parents get help with their issues. Kimberly had her breakdowns too. She even attempted suicide and got rid of all her furniture when she thought she had an infestation of bedbugs. This was a very compelling book.
