“Hark! A Vagrant” by Kate Beaton

“Hark! A Vagrant” by Kate Beaton – 166 pages

In this collection of comics, Kate Beaton offers up an irreverent but affectionate sendup of scenes from history and literature in a breezy, off-the-cuff style of writing and drawing.  Dude watchin’ with the Brontës, suffragettes in the city, sexy Tudors, a sitcom Victorian style, 15th century romance comics, and Austen mania had me chuckling with delight.  Jules Verne writes mash notes to Edgar Allan Poe, and Isambard Kingdom Brunel gets hassled by time-traveling steampunks showing off goggles and gears.  Nancy Drew, Shakespeare, and F. Scott Fitzgerald get their due as well in knowing, hilarious vignettes.  A treat for history and book lovers.  Visit Kate’s website, www.harkavagrant.com, for the comics in this volume and more.
