The Mirror Effect How Celebrity Narcissism Is Seducing America by Dr. Drew Pinsky & Dr. S. Mark Young

The Mirror Effect How Celebrity Narcissism Is Seducing America
by Dr. Drew Pinsky and Dr. S. Mark Young, 271 pages

I heard about this book when I was watching Dr. Drew's show covering the Jodi Arias trial.  The book sounded interesting, so I thought I would give it a read.  The book is copyrighted 2009, which makes it a little dated.  I guess the same theory applies, just substitute more current names that are in the tabloids like Jodi Arias and the Kardashians. This book uses celebrity examples such as Britney Spears (who pretty much has her life back together now), Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, Miley Cyrus, and Anna Nicole Smith.  The doctors talk about how people in today's society mimic the examples celebrity's set.  Our social behavior comes from watching these examples.  The mirror effect is a "monkey see, monkey do" behavior.  Following celebrities through the tabloids or through Facebook and Twitter as well as reality television seems to be the trend nowadays for a lot of people.  Do we really want to be like these celebrities?  Take the Narcissistic Personality Inventory in the back of the book. The higher your score, the more narcissistic you are.
