Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls by David Sedaris - 288 pages
This is not his best work. Don't get me wrong, there are some hilarious and poignant moments throughout but the it's not a consistently good book. The chapters written in a different voice supposedly for forensic debaters are an especially bizarre touch. Sedaris' trademark self-deprecating humor and ever present ability to find meaning in the mundane carried me through the less than stellar portions. As always there is strong language and adult situations...
I would definitely agree that the second section where he departs from his own voice was kind of weird, oddly discomfiting, and didn't mesh with those first stories that were pretty strong. But like you say- the good stories keep you reading/listening.
