The Outsider, A Memoir by Jimmy Connors

The Outsider, A Memoir by Jimmy Connors, 403 pages

I enjoyed reading this book.  If you were a fan of Jimmy Connors and the era of tennis back in his heyday in the 1970s, you will love this book. Jimmy Connors grew up in East St. Louis and moved to Belleville when he was a kid.  His mother was a great tennis player in her own right and trained him when he was a child.  He rose through the ranks of tennis greatness after he moved to Beverly Hills, CA.  This book has a lot, and I do repeat, a lot of tennis talk.  If you are not a fan of tennis, I would definitely skip this book.  Jimmy Connors did lead an extraordinary life which included a love affair with Chris Evert and a marriage of over thirty years to a Playboy playmate of the year.  In my teens, I was guilty of putting Jimmy Connors on a pedestal. This book just proved he is human like everyone else.
