"The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot

"The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot - 615 pages

I have seen this book being check in and out for about a year and kept thinking that I wanted to read it.  After reading a review here, I checked it out.  I couldn't stop reading.  The book is about a poor black woman in the 1950's who went to John Hopkins Hospital for a mass that she found.  The doctor took a biopsy, she had cervical cancer.  In the lab, her cells acted like no others had, they kept growing when others wouldn't.  The medical community used her cells for research.  This book tells of the history of Henrietta, her family and the cells that still survive.
