Take What You Can Carry, by Kevin C Pyle, 176 pages
This graphic novel features two storylines that do not intercept until the end of the book. In one, Kyle is a teenager in the suburbs of 1970s- bored and with bad friends, he starts shoplifting from a convenience store. In the parallel storyline, it is 1941, and the Himitsu family, like many other American families of Japanese descent, have been rounded up and ordered into internment camps. It is a thought-provoking read, and young adults might enjoy it.
