I don't want to give too much of a description of the plot as it will reveal spoilers about the previous three books in The Giver series. It does give background history to the characters of Jonas and Gabe from the original story. It also ties together very nicely with Gathering Blue and Messenger. It was a very satisfying conclusion to the series as it gives a definite end to all the characters' stories. However, I am a little disappointed in how traditional fantasy the series has become. This book includes elements such as the quest, magic, utopian and dystopian societies, and the ultimate battle between good and evil. Still, this is a definite must-read book for those who have read the others books in the series.
