NYPD Detective Ellie Hatcher is called out the supposed suicide of a wealthy teen. The case leads Hatcher into the seamy world of extreme pressures to succeed in elite high schools. Burke's experience as a real life prosecutor shows in her depiction of crime scenes and street level interactions. This is the third book in the Ellie Hatcher series. Each book resolves the major crime but the character relationships make much more sense if you read from the beginning. Hatcher can come across as very closed off and hard nosed without having her background to factor into the narrative.
