This book is a nerdier version of the Chelsea Handler boyfriend books.  It follows the adventures of  Hilary Winston whose former boyfriend wrote a fiction book based on her.  Hilary is a comedy writer who use to write for the tv show My Name is Earl and currently is a writer/producer for the show Community.  The book follows her many dating adventures some good, but mostly bad.  It is a touching book that shows how she deals with her cats ill health while dealing with her Mom's cancer.  She also has a strange fascination with taking baths with her boyfriends and putting shower curtains down for her cats to pee on.
