Lucas Sebastian meets Evangeline Ames the night she runs into his garden to escape a man who broke into her house. With this meeting, Lucas and Evangeline quickly form a partnership to try to determine why someone would want to kill Evangeline. But that is not the only mystery. There are also the questions of who killed Lucas' uncle, why the gardens are becoming so dangerous, and which of the two will fall in love first.
This was the first novel in Amanda Quick's new Ladies of Lantern Street series. It continues her trend of writing historical novels with psychic characters. It is also connected with her new novels written under her other names - Jayne Ann Krentz and Jayne Castle. I'm interested to see how they will all tie in together in the end.
