This was recommended to me as a sort of Japanese-manga-Twilight. That comes pretty close. Yuki is an orphan who was adopted by a school headmaster after being saved from a vampire attack by one of the secret vampire students at the school. Now she is a student there herself, protecting the secret of vampire students from all of the adoring other "day students." She protects their secret with the help of another student, Zero, whose family was killed by vampires and is hiding a secret of his own. I think that middle school girls, or general fans of FruitsBasket, will like this series.
