This is a fun and fairly easy-to-read manga that was recommended to me by a middle school-age girl. It is the story of Monkey D Luffy, a young boy with aspirations of being King of the Pirates, who sets out to find a crew and the ultimate treasure, called One Piece. What sets Luffy apart and drives the story is that he ate the fruit of the Gum Gum Tree, which gave him a rubber-like body and doomed him to never learn how to swim. I thought this was good, although I don't feel compelled to read any further. I think it would be appealing for both boys and girls, from about middle school on.
