Love and War (Library Wars Vol 1), by Kiiro Yumi, 200 pages
Library Wars takes place in a future where national and local governments are at odds, with the federal government out to destroy all books it deems 'unsuitable.' Iku Kasahara is in training to join the Library Defense Force, an elite group of librarian-soldiers, protectors of the books. I self-consciously enjoyed this- it's the typical manga story line where girl and boy are at odds, there's a secret, and then boy and girl eventually fall in like. Well, presumably after a bunch of volumes- for now, there's just simmering tension. Younger readers might like this, but part of me suspects that the main readership will be older bibliophiles who enjoy manga.
