Death of Kings by Bernard Cornwell

Death of Kings by Bernard Cornwell - 320 pages

The sixth installment of the Saxon Tales series does not disappoint.  Alfred the Great is dying and the dream of a unified England is dying with him.  His son Edward is his named successor but in the truth the fate of the nation depends on Uhtred, the Saxon-born, Viking raised warrior who has at times hated and admired Alfred.  Cornwell makes history come to life by focusing on the people instead of the on the sweeping events.  He shows how relationships and individual decisions are what truly shapes the fates of nations.
