Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George

Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George - 328 pages

Lass's mother was disappointed at her birth and therefore refused to give her a name.  All her life, she has been called simply "girl" or "lass" and told that she will amount to nothing.  So when an isbjorn, or ice bear, appears at their door saying he will give wealth to her family in exchange for her living with him for one year, Lass immediately agrees.
This is a retelling of the "East of the Sun, West of the Moon" fairy tale.  While I enjoyed the story, I did think the quest part of the tale where Lass must find her bear was a little rushed and quick to conclude.  Still, I would recommend for teens who like fairy tale retellings.
