The Magic of Lemon Drop Pie, Rachel Linden | 352 pages
A heartbroken young pie maker is granted a magical second chance to live the life she didn’t choose. Shortly before Lolly turns 33, she discovers her middle school diary, which includes her list of 5 life goals. She is flooded with regrets as she realizes she's accomplished zero of them - instead, she is alone and stuck in a life of stress and sorrow. Her aunt gives her 3 magical lemon drops that each allow her to live one day in a life where "what if" went a different direction - What if she moved to England? What if her mom didn't die? And central to the story, what if she had married Rory after all?
This is a sweet "second chances" romance, but honestly, the romance takes a backseat for the bulk of the book. It's far more about Lolly coming to terms with herself and her life, making peace with her regrets and choosing to live forward instead of looking back. The overused term "follow your bliss" grates on me a little, but overall this was just the lighthearted read to kickstart March.
